[Hadoop Hue] the Web UI for Hadoop
Hadoop Hue is an open sourced user interface for Hadoop components. It is easy to use and accessible from a browser and it allows developers to increase productivity on their Hadoop projects.
Hue is an open sourced project developed by Cloudera. They contributed this project to make it easier for new and old Hadoop developers to access data and different Hadoop tools.
The cool thing about Hadoop Hue is that you can get a quick grasp of the essentials of Hadoop technologies like Apache Pig, Hive, MapReduce, Sqoop, Cloudera Impala, HBase, etc. You have the advantage to browse all your files on HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) and can query them through Hive, Apache Pig or Impala (SQL on Hadoop)
Here is how it looks like:
Hive Query Example
Here you can see a simple select statement in Apache Hive. You can manually create schemas, tables from files, run queries for analytics, etc.
Apache Pig Example
Some data transformations need to be done in Apache Pig. In Hue, it is very easy to write a PIG script and do quick a quick ETL job.
Plenty of examples according to your automation needs.
File Browser (Files on HDFS)
On the right top corner, you will see a document icon where you can search all of the files on HDFS. Files are organized by hierarchy. It starts with and “/user/” directory and the rest of the folders will be within it . If you have the appropriate access, you can add, delete, modify, download files, etc.
While working in Hadoop, Hue will be one of the tools you will be interacting the most on a daily basis. Having the visual aspect is always a big plus when working with Hadoop technologies such as Pig, Hive, Oozie, HBase, etc.
